Family, friends, and top government officials gathered in Ijebu-Ode on Friday to bid a final farewell to Mama Lucia Onabanjo.
The former First Lady, who lived to the remarkable age of 100, was honored for her humble life and her role in Nigeria’s political history.
Governor Dapo Abiodun praised her for being a woman of strong values who preferred a simple life over the loud spotlight of politics.She was the wife of the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo (Ogun’s first civilian governor). The Governor noted how she stood by her husband even when he was detained after the 1983 military coup.
To honor her memory, the Ogun State Government promised to provide the funds needed to finish the building project at the St. Sebastian Catholic Cathedral.
Mama Lucia was described as a pillar of discipline who raised her children with deep moral standards and unshakable faith.
