The U.S. military has dealt a heavy blow to Iran’s defense capabilities, sinking nine of its warships and destroying its central naval command center.
President Trump shared the news on Sunday morning, signaling that the U.S. is prepared for a sustained and total military engagement at sea.
U.S. Central Command confirmed that among the sunken ships was a Jamaran-class corvette, which was hit early in the campaign and is currently resting at the bottom of the Gulf of Oman.
The President used a blunt tone to tell the remaining Iranian naval crews to surrender, saying their ships would soon join the others on the ocean floor if they continue to resist.
The destruction of the naval headquarters means Iran will struggle to manage its fleet in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical path for the world’s oil supply that Iran recently threatened to close.
With the Supreme Leader dead and the navy in retreat, the region is on high alert. While Iran has retaliated with missiles, the U.S. maintains that its own aircraft carriers remain safe and operational.
