At a ceremony in Abuja, President Tinubu personally pinned the new rank on Tunji Disu, confirming him as the man to lead the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu takes over as Acting IGP pending final confirmation by the Senate and the Police Council.
The ceremony featured heavyweights like the Chief of Staff and the Secretary to the Government. The President used the moment to thank the former IGP, Egbetokun, for his hard work.
Disu is highly educated with two Master’s degrees. He previously headed the famous Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and has served as the Police Commissioner in both Rivers State and Abuja.
Disu’s promotion is expected to lead to the retirement of several senior Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs), including well-known names like former spokesperson Frank Mba.
This is a standard tradition when a junior officer is moved to the top spot.
Disu is expected to start work immediately at the Police Headquarters. A formal parade and handover ceremony are already scheduled to welcome him to his new office.
