The Benue State House of Assembly is calling for an urgent security crackdown following the murder of Zaki Sughter Agamber, a traditional leader in Katsina-Ala.
The Speaker of the House, Alfred Emberga, described the killing as an "unacceptable threat" to community leadership and the peace of the state.
On Friday, March 6, unidentified gunmen invaded Tongov, kidnapping the monarch before killing him and dumping his body in the woods.
Investigators are currently puzzled as to why the monarch was targeted, as no ransom was demanded and no group has taken the blame.
During a plenary session, lawmakers insisted that security agencies must do more to protect "traditional institutions" (the kings and chiefs who lead local people).
The state government is urging anyone with information about the armed men to come forward to help the Police and DSS solve this high-profile case.
