The Kano State government is facing a string of high-profile resignations as Umar Haruna Doguwa steps down from his role heading the Ministry of Water Resources.
This latest move has sparked talk of a major "shake-up" within Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration.
Doguwa handed in his letter on March 2, 2026. He is the fourth commissioner to leave the cabinet in a short period, following the heads of the Security, Technology, and Special Duties departments.
Despite the sudden exit, Governor Yusuf thanked Doguwa for his "dedicated service," noting that the ministry’s ability to provide water to residents improved greatly under his watch.
The Ministry of Water Resources will now be overseen by the Education Commissioner until a permanent replacement is found. This ensures that the state's water projects stay on track.
Political observers are keeping a close eye on Kano, as these frequent exits suggest that the Governor may be preparing to bring in a completely fresh set of leaders for the state.
