In a major step toward stabilizing Nigeria’s fiscal policy, the Senate has commenced the confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance.
Oyedele, a professor and public policy expert from Ondo State, arrived at the National Assembly accompanied by senior government officials to prove his fitness for the job.
Oyedele is a heavyweight in the accounting world, having risen to become the Africa Tax Leader at PwC before joining the Tinubu administration.
President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that Oyedele’s deep knowledge of "revenue mobilization" (collecting government funds) is why he was chosen for this role.
He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) from Yaba Tech and degrees from Oxford Brookes University, proving his journey from local education to international expertise.
If confirmed, Oyedele will be responsible for managing the country’s finances, focusing on tax fairness and ensuring the government has the funds needed for national projects.
