In a blunt reaction to Daniel Daga’s six-month jail sentence for sexual assault, Garba Lawal has called on the next generation of Nigerian players to stay disciplined.
He criticized the young midfielder for losing focus after being given the platform to play in Europe with Molde FK.
Lawal warned that when playing abroad, you are a guest. He noted that in Europe, legal systems take allegations of this nature very seriously, and foreigners are often at a disadvantage if they aren't careful.
The former international questioned why a player with so much potential would "lose their conscience" and get involved in legal trouble instead of focusing on their career.
Lawal advised players that if they cannot handle the lifestyle in Europe, they should stay and develop in Nigeria where they understand the environment better.
He ended by saying he "weeps" for the new generation, fearing that such scandals will make it harder for other talented Nigerians to get contracts abroad.
