As he celebrates his 89th birthday, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has a clear message for his critics: he is not going anywhere.
During an international event titled “Burden and Blessing of Leadership,” the former General debunked a malicious death notice and reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria.
A fake memoir titled "pafuka" (a slang term for "finished") was being shared to trick Nigerians into believing the former leader was dying. Obasanjo's media team officially labeled this a "fabrication."
Despite the rumors, Obasanjo appeared energetic at his birthday event, stating that his continued health at 89 is a sign of God's favor and not a mistake.
While addressing the rumors, he also spoke about the "heavy burden" of leadership, drawing from his history of civil war command and his time as a civilian president.
As part of his birthday activities, the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation is targeting 10,000 beneficiaries for health and social support, proving that the elder statesman is still very active in public service.
