Bello El-Rufai has issued a strong statement on behalf of his father, Nasir El-Rufai, calling for an end to his "unlawful" detention by the ICPC.
The family argues that the anti-graft agency is violating the law by holding the former governor past the court-approved deadline.
Nasir El-Rufai was taken into custody on February 18. A magistrate’s court allowed a 14-day hold starting February 19, which has now officially ended.
The family notes that if the ICPC had a solid case, they would have filed charges by now instead of seeking fresh ways to keep him in a cell.
The family is demanding an "unconditional release," stating that the path forward is simple: if there is no valid court order, he must be allowed to go home.
El-Rufai was transferred to the ICPC in February after he was initially released by the EFCC, highlighting a complex series of investigations by multiple anti-corruption agencies.
