Residents of Ebonyi and Kwara states are on high alert following a series of violent attacks by gunmen over the weekend.
In Ebonyi, the father of the immediate past Deputy Governor was snatched from his vehicle, while in Kwara, a quiet village was looted by motorcycle-riding bandits.
The victim is Ezeogo Francis Igwe, a respected monarch and the father of Kelechi Igwe. He was targeted on Sunday morning while heading to worship.
The kidnappers used a motorcycle to block his car in the Ikwo Local Government Area, a tactic that allowed them to move quickly and disappear before help could arrive.
Late Saturday night, a similar group of armed men invaded Gada Oli, a village near Wawa. They didn't just shoot to scare people; they targeted business owners and looted several shops before retreating.
Authorities in both states have promised to increase patrols. In Ebonyi, the Governor has vowed that "the full weight of the law" will fall on those behind the monarch's disappearance.
