Tunji Disu has cleared the final hurdle to becoming Nigeria's top police officer after the Police Council voted unanimously to ratify his appointment.
He will be officially sworn in by President Tinubu on Wednesday, marking a new chapter for the Nigeria Police Force.
Born in 1966, Disu joined the force in 1992. He is highly educated, with degrees in everything from Criminology and Forensic Investigation to Public Administration and Legal Psychology.
Governors from different regions, including Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa) and Peter Mbah (Enugu), supported the move, noting that Disu’s promotion was based on his "excellent career record."
Before this role, Disu held major positions, including leading the Intelligence Response Team and serving as an Assistant Inspector-General in Lagos.
He is widely seen as a "modern" policeman who uses technology and intelligence to solve crimes.
The formal swearing-in on Wednesday will be the final step in a process that began with his appointment as "Acting" IGP just a few days ago.
