Nyesom Wike is pushing for a fresh start for the PDP after a court ruling effectively wiped out the results of the previous Ibadan convention.
He is urging the faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde to abandon personal interests and help the PDP become Nigeria’s "Number 1 opposition party" again.
Wike emphasized that political parties must follow the Electoral Act and their own constitutions. The court agreed that the previous leaders had overstayed their tenure.
The Minister's main message is for leaders to "leave your ego" at the door. He argues that constant lawsuits are preventing the party from preparing for the next election cycle.
Due to a clash with the APC convention at Eagle Square, the PDP has officially secured the Abuja Velodrome for its upcoming leadership elections at the end of March.
The aim is to have a legally recognized leadership team in place by April to ensure the party can function properly without being "government agents" or shadows of themselves.
