The legal battle for Mike Ozekhome has taken a new turn. Although a judge recently struck out a three-count charge of forgery against him, the EFCC has reportedly detained him to prepare for a fresh round of court proceedings.
The government’s lead lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked the court to stop the current trial. This wasn't because Ozekhome was found innocent, but so the government could "review and consolidate" all the evidence into a more powerful case.
The trouble started in the UK, where a property tribunal found that a house Ozekhome claimed was his actually belonged to a former Nigerian minister. The UK judge described the documents provided in that case as being produced through "deception."
The charges involve claims that Ozekhome used a fake passport in someone else's name to try and take control of the London home back in 2021.
With Ozekhome now in EFCC custody, the public is waiting for the government to file its newly organized charges following the UK court's findings.
