The security headquarters in Abuja has dismissed rumors regarding the secret purchase of toxic chemicals.
After being questioned by Nasir El-Rufai over a supposed shipment from Poland, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) clarified that no such substance was procured.
El-Rufai claimed that leadership within the political opposition had gathered intelligence about the 10kg chemical shipment.
Because the chemical (thallium sulphate) is highly toxic and hard to detect, El-Rufai had demanded to know where it was being stored and what it was going to be used for.
Speaking to the press, a senior ONSA official described the claims as "untrue," putting an end to the speculation that the agency was handling dangerous toxins without oversight.
While El-Rufai called for more openness regarding national security purchases, the agency insists this specific purchase simply never happened.
