As the U.S. and Israel continue military strikes on Iran, the trial of Asif Merchant has revealed shocking details of an alleged state-sponsored hit on American leaders.
Merchant testified that he was a pawn for Iranian spies, a claim the U.S. government is working to disprove.
The trial is happening while the U.S. is in a widening war with Iran. President Trump recently told ABC News, “I got him [Khamenei] before he got me,” directly linking the war to these assassination threats.
Merchant thought he was hiring "Mafia members" to carry out the job for $5,000, but the men were actually undercover FBI agents who recorded his plans.
Merchant told the court he had "no other option" but to comply because his Iranian handler knew exactly where his wife and daughter lived.
Interestingly, Merchant claimed his handler never gave a final command to kill, but instead told him to research Trump’s rally locations and find people to "maybe have somebody murdered."
