In a significant ruling at the Federal High Court, Justice James Omotosho has cleared Abba Kyari of allegations involving hidden properties and false affidavits.
While this is a major win for the former "Super Cop," he still faces other legal battles in the coming weeks.
The judge found that the NDLEA did not present title documents or traditional history to prove Kyari owned the 14 assets they claimed he had hidden.
Kyari successfully argued that some of the land in question belonged to his late father, who had a large family, and was shared among 30 children.
It is important to note that this acquittal only covers non-declaration of assets. Kyari still faces a separate trial before Justice Emeka Nwite regarding a 2022 cocaine trafficking case.
The NDLEA has been directed to review the judgment and decide if they will appeal. For now, Kyari and his brothers are officially free of these 23 counts.
