The ongoing Godwin Emefiele corruption trial took a new turn as his associate, Henry Omoile, denied the truth of his signed statements.
Omoile, who is facing charges for allegedly accepting illegal gifts, now claims the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) manipulated his testimony.
Omoile admitted he signed the documents but told the court they did not contain a "genuine confession." He stated he was cautioned by the EFCC but lied anyway to avoid detention.
During cross-examination by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), Omoile admitted he never filed an official report or petition against the investigators for these alleged threats.
Omoile’s legal team is now attempting to file a fundamental human rights case to challenge how he was treated during the investigation.
Emefiele faces 19 counts of corruption and making illegal demands, while Omoile faces 3 counts related to his role as an agent. Both men maintain they are innocent.
