Nigeria has put a hold on all future Christian pilgrimages to Israel following recent missile attacks and military escalations in the region.
The government explained that while spiritual journeys are important, they cannot risk the lives of Nigerians abroad.
Before the suspension, the government used a giant Boeing 777—the largest ever for a pilgrimage—to move thousands of people. All those currently on the trip have been successfully brought home.
The NCPC Executive Secretary, Stephen Adegbite, warned that no further travel will be allowed until international authorities confirm that Israel is safe for tourists again.
The government is asking Nigerians to stay calm and not take any actions that could hurt Nigeria's relationship with other countries during this sensitive time.
Officials are working with President Bola Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to monitor the crisis daily. They will announce new dates for travel only when the "state of emergency" is lifted.
