In his first official act since being sworn in, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu has inaugurated a high-level team to build the framework for State Police in Nigeria.
This committee has been tasked with creating a plan that ensures local policing is fair, professional, and trusted by the public.
The committee’s main job is to figure out how to make policing more responsive to local security risks and community needs.
They will develop a plan for how states should handle funding, training, and recruitment for their own police structures.
Disu emphasized that this change is about "deepening community participation" in crime prevention while keeping the country united.
