The Nigerian Export Promotion Council is facing a major leadership breakdown. Following a reported burglary in the Finance and Accounts division,
CEO Nonye Ayeni is accused of bypasssing regular police procedures by inviting the DSS to interrogate her own senior management team.
Insiders claim there is a "silent war" between the CEO and her directors. A petition previously sent to the Minister of Industry accused Ayeni of "high-handedness" and poor leadership.
Staff are questioning why the secret police were called in for a simple burglary that the local police were already investigating.
Aggrieved workers allege that recent secret transfers of 68 staff members and the ongoing DSS grills are tools being used to "weaponize" fear and silence opposition within the agency.
The NEPC spokesperson, Aliu Seidu Sadiq, defends the move, stating it is "not out of place" to involve the DSS to check for internal collaborators in the security breach.
