The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has begun restructuring the Force's communication department.
This move includes the appointment of a more senior officer, DCP Anthony Placid, to lead the public relations team and the establishment of a specialized unit for digital communications.
DCP Anthony Placid is now the primary face of the Nigeria Police Force. He brings a higher rank to the office of the Force PRO.
By creating the New Media Office under CSP Ali Giwa, the police aim to improve their engagement with Nigerians on social media platforms like 𝕏 and Facebook.
This change comes during a period of high-profile legal battles involving the police. The former PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, recently stated that the IGP would remain professional and "resolute" despite public sentiments.
While an official statement is still pending from Force Headquarters in Abuja, the new officers are already preparing to take over their respective duties this week.
